The Community

Kin is bigger
than blood.

Kinfolk Standard was born in Santa Cruz, but it isn't about belonging to one place. It's about recognizing yourself in other people. Different streets. Different oceans. Different lives. Same humanity.

01 — The Belief

It's not every man for himself. It's every man for humanity.

This is a free, open community for people who believe we owe something to one another — respect, curiosity, courage, generosity, and the willingness to leave things better than we found them.

No membership fee. No gatekeeping. No uniform required. Just show up like we belong to each other.

We're not asking you to join an organization. We're asking you to hold a standard.

Nobody
eats alone.
Protect
your people.
Leave it
better.
Make the
circle bigger.
Stay
curious.
If not me,
then who.

02 — From Santa Cruz, Outward

Rooted here.
Driven everywhere.

Kinfolk Standard began on the edge of the Pacific in Santa Cruz, California — a place shaped by waves, redwoods, outsiders, artists, fighters, farmers, surfers, families and people doing things their own way.

Santa Cruz is our home base. Humanity is the neighborhood.

That means you'll see this town all over our work — the coast, the characters, the culture. It also means none of it is a souvenir. What we found here is the same thing people find everywhere: that a place gets better when the people in it decide to look after each other.

03 — Dispatches From Home

Here's what our town is talking about.

Not tourism content. A small cultural newspaper from our corner of the world — the makers, the fighters, the shops, the shows, the issues worth knowing about. If you're not from here, consider it a window into what caring about a place actually looks like.

04 — Kinfolk Stories

Everybody has a story worth passing around.

We're not that interested in "tell us about yourself." The better question is this:

Tell us about somebody who changed the way you see other people.

A mentor. A stranger. A coach. A grandmother. Somebody who fed you when you had nothing, or made room for you when nobody else did. Stories about friendship, immigration, grief, resilience, recovery, parenthood, sport, travel, generosity, unlikely friendships and lessons passed between generations.

We publish them numbered and located, because where a story comes from matters.

Where the
Kinfolk are.

No chapters. No borders. Not yet, anyway. For now this is simply a way to see that people who believe in the same things are everywhere.

06 — Future Chapters

Someday, find your Kinfolk anywhere.

As this community grows naturally, Kinfolk may eventually become physical too — independent local chapters, gatherings, training groups, dinners, creative projects and whatever else our people build.

We won't manufacture community for the sake of saying we have one.

When real communities form, we'll help give them a flag.

07 — The Kinfolk Standard

Not rules.
A standard.

Seven things we try to live by. The standard is self-set — do the right thing without needing an audience.
